Are you passionate about creating a meaningful impact in healthcare accessibility and breaking down structural barriers for marginalized communities? Trans Youth Initiative – Uganda (TYI-Uganda) is inviting applications from innovative, strategic consultants ready to lead the development of a transformative toolkit aimed at revolutionizing healthcare access for transgender and gender-diverse youth in Uganda.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Funded by the Gender Equality Fund (GEF), a collaborative effort supported by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, GSK, and ViiV Healthcare, this consultancy is part of a three-year initiative to ensure that transgender and gender-diverse communities in Uganda experience equitable, stigma-free access to essential healthcare services for HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB), and malaria. TYI-Uganda’s mission is to empower TG-CSOs and other key stakeholders with tools and resources that champion inclusivity, reduce stigma, and dismantle the systemic obstacles that prevent quality care.

WHAT YOU WILL ACHIEVE

As our consultant, you will be at the forefront of developing an actionable, user-centered toolkit designed to:

  • Empower CSOs to identify, address, and advocate against policy, legal, and structural barriers impacting healthcare access.
  • Engage Diverse Perspectives by working closely with rural transgender and gender-diverse youth, TG-CSOs, healthcare providers, government stakeholders, and community leaders.
  • Drive Real Change through customized, hands-on resources for assessing healthcare access barriers and actionable strategies that champion health equity and respect for gender diversity.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conduct a Comprehensive Literature Review – Gather best practices, case studies, and global strategies to inform toolkit development, focusing on inclusive, gender-transformative healthcare approaches.
  2. Stakeholder Engagement and Insights Gathering – Capture the lived experiences and unique healthcare needs of rural transgender and gender-diverse individuals through participatory engagement.
  3. Toolkit Development – Create a practical, user-friendly toolkit, customized for TG-CSOs, to address stigma, enhance advocacy, and ensure policy alignment with the realities faced by Uganda’s transgender and gender-diverse youth.
  4. Monitoring & Evaluation Framework – Design a robust framework that enables stakeholders to assess toolkit impact, measure progress, and drive continuous improvement.
  5. Capacity Building – Develop and deliver training resources that empower CSOs and health service providers with the skills needed for stigma-free, inclusive healthcare environments.
